Growing up in the Appalachian Range, the outdoors has always been a place where I could find myself. Even as a young boy, I was always outside, exploring and learning about the environment around me. My family would all but have to drag me to the dinner table to eat, and as soon as I was done, I was back out the door diving into a new adventure. We live in a world today that will consume as much of us as we will allow it to take; but the outdoors demands nothing, offering room to breathe, freedom to think, and most importantly – clarity.
To be actively a part of creation, hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, or rafting, this awakens a part of me that I never want to be dormant. I connect with creation on a level that extends into my soul, and awakens my spirit. In the book Wild At Heart, John Eldridge asked these questions, "What makes you come alive? What stirs your heart?". After carefully considering this, I find that my family, relationships with people, and creation, while keeping God in the center of each of them, is what really makes me come alive, and truly stirs my heart!
