Harts, West Virginia
I was introduced to the outdoors at a young age, by my father. He lit the flame inside me that burns brighter every year. Hunting isn't just a hobby for me, it’s a way of life. Since I was old enough to hunt I've always been intrigued by whitetails and big whitetail bucks are what I'm passionate about. Hunting whitetails in Southern West Virginia poses a different set of challenges than the Midwest states. The mountains are steep and rugged, with narrow flats and jagged ridges. Playing the wind anywhere but a ridge top is a feat to say the least.
Luckily, we are blessed with four archery-only counties in heart of this unforgiving terrain; which is where I've shifted my focus in recent years. Most of these counties are littered with coal mine reclamation projects which are reminiscent of Western states and pose difficulties for whitetail hunting. I hope to pass on the tradition and my passion for the outdoors to my two young children one day. Because, after all, family is what it's all about.
